ตำราพิชัยสงครามมีว่าไว้ “ยุทธศาสตร์คือการใช้เหลี่ยมเล่ห์เพทุบาย” หมายความว่ากุศโลบายเป็นการหลอกลวงต้มตุ๋นขั้นสูงหลังจากศึกษาสถานการณ์อย่างถ่องแท้ ประเมินขีดความสามารถและจิตใจของศัตรูกับฝ่ายตน ค่อยวางกลยุทธ์แล้วจึงเคลื่อนไหว แม้นเรามีความสามารถ ควรแสดงออกว่าเราไร้ซึ่งความสามารถ คิดปฏิบัติการระยะใกล้ให้แสดงเหมือนไกล หลังจากหลอกลวงศัตรูต้มตุ๋นข้าศึก ฉ้อโกงคู่ต่อสู้...
ด้านการเมืองไม่ว่ามีจุดมุ่งหมายดีร้ายประการใด เพียงคำนึงถึงผลสุดท้าย ทางการเมืองยิ่งไม่มีศัตรูถาวร มีแต่ผลประโยชน์ที่เป็นนิรันดร์ ข่านแสลี่เป็นบุคคลเช่นนี้ ส่วนโค่วจงเข้าใจกฏเกณฑ์ของการละเล่นนี้ สำหรับฉีจื่อหลิงถึงแม้เข้าใจ แต่จะไม่กระทำ ดังนั้นฉีจื่อหลิงจึงไม่เหมาะกับการยุ่งเกี่ยวกับการเมือง

ปาฟงหัน: เกรงว่าเราท่านและโค่วจงล้วนไม่มีคุณสมบัติ เอ่ยถึงปัญหาข้อนี้ อาจบางทีคนมีชีวิตอยู่ในโลก มุ่งแสวงหาวัตถุเรื่องราวบางสิ่งเช่นชื่อเสียงลาภยศ ภรรยานางบำเรอ ขอเพียงผ่านขั้นตอนแห่งกรแสวงหาเช่นนี้ ชีวิตค่อยมีความหมาย
ฉีจื่อหลิง: กล่าวได้ประเสริฐ ที่น่าสนใจคือผู้คนเพียงแสวงหาพริบตาของความสำเร็จ ต่อจากนั้นเริ่มแสวงหาสิ่งต่อไป
ปาฟงหัน: ดังนั้นความรักที่ไม่ผลิดอกออกผลกลับสมบูรณ์พร้อม คำกล่าวเช่นนี้ดูเหมือนซึมเศร้าหม่นหมองอยู่บ้าง แต่ก็เป็นหลักเหตุผลอันเที่ยงแท้ โอ... สตรีที่รักชอบพวกเรา ล้วนแล้วแต่ไม่มีผลลงเอย นึกดูเป็นที่สะท้อนใจนัก
